FEDS PROTECTION FOR STATE AND LOCAL VETERINARIANS
The National Association of Federal Veterinarians and the National Association of State Public Health Veterinarians worked with FEDS Protection to extend the very same professional liability insurance protections that Federal veterinarians have to State and Local government veterinarians – at the same cost.
All state and local government veterinarians now have access to liability insurance, through FEDS Protection, to protect against civil liability, administrative, and criminal exposures that government veterinarians face. In the last decade, professional liability exposure has become substantially more prevalent to government employees often resulting in allegations, investigations, and civil lawsuits – all while in the performance of professional job duties.
Allegations against state and local veterinary medical officers arise out of many of the same federal services within respective agriculture, defense, environmental and health and human services as a result of:
· Ensuring the control and prevention of diseases that can affect both people and animals,
· Conducting investigations and providing consultations about diseases and issues of public health,
· Protecting animal health and well-being,
· Overseeing and enforcing regulations pertaining to animal import permits and animal welfare,
· Ensuring the safety of meat and poultry intended for human consumption, and
· Reporting diseases of animals and humans to the public.
If you’re a veterinarian employed by the state and working at a college or university, the coverage extends to allegations arising out of your government responsibilities in operating veterinary diagnostic laboratories on behalf of your respective state and as part of the National Animal Health Laboratory Network; and in the performance of testing for endemic animal diseases and conducting surveillance of foreign animal diseases.
